Also known as an Implantable Contact lenses. The ideal patient:

Myopic patient with prescription too large for LASIK. Myopic patient with cornea too thin for LASIK.

The procedure consists of implanting an artificial lens between your natural lens and your Iris.

The lens is inserted in 4 easy steps:

Step 1: Anesthetic eyedrops are placed. Step 2: A small entry is made in the cornea. Step 3: The lens is delivered into the front of the eye. Step 4: The lens is positioned out of view behind the Iris. Step 5: ALL DONE!!

EVO ICL or Implantable Collamer® lens implants are giving people hope of perfect vision without glasses or contacts.  Imagine the freedom to see again. Seeing without ever having to worry about where your glasses are. This is exactly what ICL or Implantable Collamer® Lenses can do for our patients.  It is a safe alternative to LASIK. However, it is only currently used for patients that have nearsightedness and astigmatism. This collagen-based lens will seat behind the natural lens of the eye.  It is an implant. This means it will be surgically placed inside the eye to improve a person’s vision.  It will be inside the eye and will not be placed on top of the eye as a contact. No natural tissue is removed when the lens is placed in the eye.  But, the vision is improved. ICL or Implantable Collamer® lens implants are a permanent solution to replacing contacts or glasses. However, the ICL can be removed if needed.

ICL or Implantable Collamer® Lens implants are different from that of LASIK which is a laser-assisted surgery that treats nearsightedness and farsightedness as well as astigmatism.  The LASIK procedure uses an excimer laser. This laser will permanently change the shape of the cornea. The cornea is the clear covering over the front of the eye. There are no bandages or stitches needed just some eye drops.  This procedure does remove a part of the eye, unlike that of EVO ICL or Implantable Collamer® lens implants that do not remove any portion of the eye. LASIK has been done for many many years and there are many success stories, however, it doesn’t work for everyone, which is why ICL is an option as well.  Implantable Collamer® lens implants aren’t for everyone either, since they can only correct certain conditions. However, they do correct more conditions than that of LASIK.  And, if LASIK isn’t right for your condition, looking at an Implantable Collamer lens isn’t a bad idea.

Implantable Collamer® lens implants are made of Collamer® which is proprietary collagen-based material. Collagen is naturally found in the body and is easily accepted by the body. It is soft and pliable so it will feel very natural in the eye. And, it offers unique UV protection that allows the light to filter through to the eye but protects it from harmful UV rays.  The word Collamer® is collagen and polymer spun into one word. As it is biocompatible and will naturally harmonize with your eye. It is intended for patients with moderate to severe myopic vision problems. Most of these patients do not meet the necessary biological make up for LASIK surgery, making them a perfect ICL candidate.  This safe alternative to LASIK surgery is a great way to get your vision back without corrective lenses such as glasses or contacts.

Another reason people choose EVO ICL or Implantable Collamer® lens implants is that they have thin corneas.  Thin corneas with laser surgery could have a bad outcome. As the laser removes a part of the cornea and with ICL or Implantable Collamer® lens implants, there is something physically put in the eye, nothing is removed.  You should not have an ICL procedure done if you are pregnant or nursing, don’t meet the min. endothelial cell density for your age or your vision is not stable. As with all eye procedures, you should consult your doctor before signing up for any treatment plan. Implantable Collamer® lens implants are great for correcting nighttime vision as well.  It will give the patient a sharp clear vision and takes about 20-30 minutes for the procedure to be performed.  ICL or Implantable Collamer® lens implants have been around since 1997 and are used in 1/2 million patients’ eyes. It is a very safe and tested procedure that simply works and has a 99% satisfaction rate.  At any time if the lens has to be replaced or corrected, it can be done without an issue. If for some reason the lens just is not improving your vision, have it removed with ease?

On the day of the procedure, you should expect eye drops in your eye that will numb the eye as well as dilating eye drops.  You will be asked to lie on your back for the procedure and other sedation options will be covered by your doctor. There will be a small opening in the cornea that will be
