A cataract is a progressive clouding of the natural lens in your eye. People with advanced cataracts often say they feel as if they’re looking through light fog or a piece of waxed paper.  No medication, laser treatment or exercise regimen can make a cataract disappear. The only way to eliminate a cataract is through cataract surgery, a 10-minute microsurgical procedure in which the old clouded lens is removed through a tiny surgical incision and replaced with a synthetic intraocular lens (IOL).

Standard Cataract surgery. Refractive Cataract surgery.

A Refractive surgery is Eye Surgery performed to reduce the need for glasses. For a long time, LASIK and PRK were the most common Refractive surgeries. Recently, with the introduction of Advanced Technology Lens implants and new Laser technology, Cataract surgery can be performed as a Refractive Cataract surgery. At LaserCare Eye Center, we are Vision Correction Specialists.  Unlike your typical Cataract surgeon, we are Refractive Cataract Surgeons.  We offer the latest technology to reduce your dependence on glasses after Cataract surgery.  We are one of few practices in Dallas Fort Worth that has an in-house LASIK suite.

At LaserCare Eye Center, we offer our patients Refractive Cataract surgery options to optimize vision after Cataract surgery.  The options include:

Panoptix Trifocal IOL: For many years, both patients and ophthalmologists have wanted a trifocal lens that could be implanted at the time of cataract surgery. The ideal trifocal lens would correct vision at near, intermediate and far distance for the greatest breadth of spectacle free vision. ReSTOR Lens Implant: This is an Advanced Technology Multifocal lens that corrects your vision for far distance, near and intermediate distance at the time of Cataract surgery. Crystalens Lens Implant: This is an Advanced Technology Pseudo-Accommodative lens that corrects your vision for far distance, near and intermediate distance at the time of Cataract surgery. LASIK-Cataract surgery with Monovision:  A 2-step Laser procedure is performed a few months after Cataract surgery to correct astigmatism and fine-tune vision.  One eye is aimed for the distance and the other eye is aimed for near.

TORIC Lens Implant: This is an Advanced Technology lens that reduces and corrects astigmatism at the time of Cataract surgery. Limbal Relaxing Incisions: These are tiny incisions made in the peripheral cornea to reduce astigmatism. They work best for small amounts of astigmatism. They are usually used in conjunction with the ReSTOR, Panoptix Trifocal IOL, or Crystalens. Femtosecond Laser-Assisted Cataract surgery: This is the use of a Femtosecond Laser(similar to the laser used to make a LASIK flap) to make tiny incisions in the peripheral cornea to reduce astigmatism. LASIK Cataract surgery:  A 2-step Laser procedure is performed a few months after Cataract surgery to correct astigmatism and fine-tune vision.  We have our own laser suite with an Intra-lase iFS laser and Visx Excimer laser. PRK (Photorefractive Keratoplasty) Cataract surgery: A 1-step Laser procedure is performed a few months after Cataract surgery to correct astigmatism and fine-tune vision.  This is performed in the comfort of our in-house LASIK suite.
